Last night Call Me Heike had the honor of playing music for a 60th birthday party.

I didn’t know that Rainbow Dance Factory could be rented for such events, AND that they do amazing catering. Hazelle, the owner, explained that the meal qualified not just as “slow-food” but that it required 30 hours of slow-cooking to get it right.

Sometimes our band gets invited to taste in the culinary delights of a celebration….and wow were we happy about that extra bonus!

We wish Bärbel an adventurous and fun-filled year ahead and thank her for entrusting us with part of the musical program for her celebration!

Call Me Heike is gearing up to perform at a special birthday celebration this April at the Rainbow Dance Factory Tübingen!

We’re thrilled to welcome drummer Alexander König from Stuttgart to the stage with us. Having collaborated on several tracks from our Only Guessing CD, he brings incredible energy and creativity to our music. It’s always a joy to create with such an inspiring co-musician.

Can’t wait for this one!

Call Me Heike bereitet sich darauf vor, im April bei einer besonderen Geburtstagsfeier in der Rainbow Dance Factory Tübingen aufzutreten!

Wir freuen uns riesig, den Stuttgarter Schlagzeuger Alexander König mit auf der Bühne zu haben. Er hat bereits an mehreren Songs unserer Only Guessing CD mitgewirkt und bringt unglaubliche Energie und Kreativität in unsere Musik. Es ist immer eine Freude, mit einem so inspirierenden Mitmusiker zu spielen.

Wir können es kaum erwarten!

Nina, shaker-of-the-cores

Feb. 21 is Nina Simone’s birthday. She was born in 1933 and would be 92 years old. Happy Birthday you wonder-lady, you extraordinary fountain of power, you shaker-of-the-cores.

There are a few key moments in life when something becomes activated in us. In 1984 Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” sparked an intense desire in me to perform musically. I promised myself to 1. never forget how it moved me AND 2. do something about it when I was older. I was six years old then.

Later, I didn’t forget. I used to hide under our kitchen table desperately trying to sing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” Judy Garland-like or Aladdin’s “A Whole New World.” Sadly, with a lack of role models for musical encouragement, I had no idea how to develop a singing voice.

Fast forward to my second year at college. My roommate brought home CD’s from the library. Coming from downstairs I could hear something irresistible. Something velvety and fierce. I could feel her voice in my cells, a crawling-clawing out of my heart. Boom! Yet another activation. Five years later, I took classical singing lessons with a Russian opera singer in Prague. Another five years and I began singing Nina songs with my now band. That was 18 years ago.

What I’ve learned is that I need to sing. I need it in order to feel essential parts of myself and in order to connect with others. No matter the quality of performance achieved or the size of the audience in attendance, the expression and exchange themselves are vital, like breathing.

So….

Thank you for what you brought to life, Nina Simone-Eunice Kathleen Waymon. Thank you for your gifts. Thank you for sharing them, even if at times it wasn’t deserved. Thank you for the risks you took. You moved mountains in me. What a wonder! I am so grateful. ♡ Colleen

Am Freitag den 09. Februar durfte usere Band die Abschlussfeier der Masterstudenten des Fachbereichs Psychologie der Universität Tübingen musikalisch begleiten.
Es war ein gemütlicher Abend in der Neuen Aula im Festsaal mit anschließendem Sektempfang und Butterbrezeln.

Wir hatten eine tolle Zeit & freuen uns die Fakultät der Psychologie möglicherweise im Mai wiederzusehen.

Dear Fans,

we hope you are having a proper winter in the Northern Hemisphere and yet staying warm and cozy! We are busy rehearsing for our gig in February and look forward to seeing you this year. wir hoffen, ihr habt einen ordentlichen Winter in der nördlichen Hemisphäre und haltet es trotzdem warm und gemütlich! Wir proben schon fleißig für unseren Auftritt im Februar und freuen uns darauf, euch dieses Jahr zu sehen. Erste Station ist die Tübinger Psychologie-Abschlussfeier am 9. We know that these are odd and challenging times; our band hopes that you have the resources to manage well despite the intense dynamics of this pandemic. A helpful reminder for us, in order to not get intimidated into paralysis or hopelessness, is that good things are also contagious….like moods imparted by music.

Februar 2017 & 2018

Young At HeartTrotz des Winters (oder auch derzeitiges Wintermangel) ist der Februar normalerweise eine aktive Zeit für die Band. Call Me Heike bereitet sich derzeit auf eine Hochzeitsfeier im Februar vor. Am selben Tag letzten Jahres trat CMH bei einer Hochzeit eines eigenen Bandmitglieds auf. So fleißig wie wir sind, am darauffolgenden Tag traten wir bei einem Charity Event für das DAI auf.

The students in the Dept. of Tontechnik & Sounddesign of the Hochschule der Medien in Stuttgart, along with their advisor Prof. Curdt, have chosen Call Me Heike (again!) to be recorded in April 2018.

So, the next golden for CMH is the golden AM-Tonstudio in U 54.

…Now you know, 2018 holds great things for the Band, yeaaaahhhhh!!!!
